PCC responds to latest recorded crime statistics
Norfolk’s Police and Crime Commissioner Lorne Green has released the following statement in response to the publication of the latest recorded crime data by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) for England and Wales.
The quarterly statistics, released today by the ONS cover to the year ending September 2019, and show Norfolk to have the lowest crime rate in the East of England.
PCC Lorne Green, said: “While Norfolk remains the safest county in the Eastern region it must be a matter of concern to see rises in certain offences both nationally and locally.
“In certain cases, such as reported incidents of sexual offences, it is difficult to know to what extent this is accounted for in considerable part by an increased confidence and willingness to report such crimes.
“The Constabulary’s concerted and sustained operation to combat County Lines in Norfolk has influenced the number of drug and weapon offences recorded.
“In other crime categories reassurance can be found in the welcome decreases in the number of recorded burglary, robbery and vehicle offences.”
