Police & Crime Commissioner launches “Winter of Action”

Building on the success of the Safer Norfolk Summer campaign, the Police & Crime Commissioner for Norfolk has launched the Safer Norfolk Winter campaign to support the wider government Safer Streets Winter of Action*. Partners across the county will deliver a visible deterrence, targeted engagement and local initiatives with communities in priority areas from the start of December to the end of January 2026.

The Safer Norfolk initiative focuses on reducing town centre criminality, retail crime, street crime and anti-social behaviour, as well as tackling issues in the night-time economy, including violence against women and girls such as alcohol related disorder and spiking.

During the summer, Safer Norfolk was rolled out countywide, involving multi-agency enforcement and engagement. Partners used enforcement activity such as Public Space Protection Orders and targeted patrols to address issues such as street drinking and retail crime, with over 4,200 hours of high-visibility policing delivered, alongside youth-focused programmes, specialist support services and engagement with local communities.

The initiative not only addressed immediate concerns but also laid the groundwork for sustained developments in public safety and community resilience across Norfolk.

Sarah Taylor, Police & Crime Commissioner for Norfolk said: "By working together in this targeted way, we can quickly and effectively tackle the issues that matter most to our communities. Finding and then delivering local-led solutions to those issues creates stronger, more connected communities where everyone feels safe to live, visit and work. As was clear during the summer campaign, this is about making lasting differences to communities and laying foundations for the future.”

Mark Stokes, Chair of the Norfolk Community Safety Partnership, said: “Protecting the vulnerable and keeping people safe is at the heart of everything we do as a partnership. We will continue to build on the summer’s successes, taking in to account the different challenges that the darker evenings bring to communities and businesses. The winter campaign gives us the opportunity to once again demonstrate the positive impact of close partnership working to keep our communities safe.”

*The Safer Streets Winter of Action is being led by Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) and Deputy Mayors, supported by the Home Office in partnership with Chief Constables and other essential local partners such as councils, schools, health services, business, transport and community organisations.

Neighbourhood Policing Survey

Norfolk Constabulary has launched a survey to help people shape policing priorities in their communities. The survey is funded by the Office of the Police & Crime Commissioner for Norfolk and takes just five minutes to complete. The responses will be shared with local policing teams to help them understand each area’s different concerns, right down to the postcode.
